The Minack Theatre Cafe - Penzance

With quite possibly one of the most stunning views in the UK, the Minack Theatre Cafe is a must visit destination.

To improve visitor experience, the new cafe offering was to provide a relaxed dining setting with an increased and improved seating area. Natural materials and a limited colour palette amplify the casual atmosphere and make sure that the interior takes a back seat to the important element, the new, huge picture windows and glorious view.

The history of the Minack Theatre is an inspiring one and it was key that elements of that history be reflected in the cafe interior. The hexagonal motif found on the stage was reflected in the floor finishes installed by Absolute Flooring. Hexagonal motifs in a warm wood were used to create feature elements of the bespoke serving counters built by RRW Shoplifters in Redruth.

For the finishes I drew inspiration from the natural surroundings and the story of Rowena Cade. She mixed concrete with sand from the local beach which she carried up the cliffside on her back! The cafe counters were finished in a concrete effect clay produced by Clay Works Helston.

Relaxed sofas and booth seating were created with a gorgeous herringbone textile with colours reminiscent of beach shale. All of the finishes were paired back and natural to allow the gorgeous surroundings to take front stage through the new picture windows.
